Statement date vs. due date: when should you pay?

Your card's statement date is the day the billing period closes and the bill is calculated. The due date comes a few weeks later and is the last day to pay that bill on time.

Statement date vs. due date: when should you pay?

Pay the full statement balance by the due date and most cards charge no interest on purchases. Pay less, and interest applies to what is left.

Never miss a due date with Spendry

  1. Add the card with its statement day and due day.
  2. Spendry shows what is due on the Home screen and on the Reminders screen.
  3. Get a reminder before the due date, then mark it paid or snooze it right from the notification.
Tip

Purchases made just after the statement date have the longest time before they are due, because they land on the next bill.

Questions

What if the due date falls on a weekend?

Many banks move it to the next business day, but rules differ. Paying a day or two early is the safe choice.

Can I pay before the statement date?

Yes. Paying early lowers the balance on your next statement.
